The Carnival of the Animals

With Karim Slama

Tonight, the world of animals lifts the veil on the world of music. Onstage this evening is the Carnival of the Animals! Since childhood, Karim has been fascinated by music: his dream is to become an orchestra conductor. With the help of Isabelle the violinist, he discovers a world he thought he could never reach. Isabelle lifts a veil with the tip of her bow to uncover a musical book, the story of Ferdinand the Bull. Marvellous! The music is telling a story! Then our fairy begins to sing The Ox on the Roof, a Brazilian tune that comes straight from the Rio Carnival. Another veil is lifted and a pianist appears. Fantastic! The music makes everyone want to dance! Karim is ecstatic. But that’s not all. He wants to be a conductor, and he will be a conductor! Musicians materialize from all sides. With their instruments, they imitate donkeys, kangaroos and elephants, becoming the accomplices and guinea pigs of our apprentice conductor. And so the evening becomes the Carnival of the Animals. No, Karim, tortoises can’t dance the French Cancan! No, Karim, it isn’t twenty thousand notes under the sea! Learn the music before you become a fossil! The path is long, sprinkled with pieces labelled Presto Furioso and Allegro Ridicolo… Will our friend attain his dream? Will his musical companions be discerning enough to encourage him on his quest and lift the veil on the mysteries of music? From age 7
